You've probably already heard that Steve Gerber, landmark writer of books like The Defenders, Man-Thing, Howard the Duck, Omega The Unknown and Hard Time, passed away February 10th after complications from a long illness. If you've read Gerber's stuff, you'll know what a loss this is for the industry; even though his more recent comic projects may not have been burning up the sales charts, he was always inventive and unique in a field that no longer seems to seek out those qualities in its creators.
I won't eat up this page with my own opinions, but instead I'll pass you on to some of the other excellent writers out there who both admired and actually knew Gerber, like --
Mark Evanier, writing on Steve Gerber's Blog...
Neil Gaiman, writing on his online journal...
Steven Grant, writing in his column at Comic Book Resources...
Gail Simone, cross-posted on Comic Book Resources...
Marv Wolfman, writing on his website...
Mark Millar, on his Millarworld forums...
... and more Mark Evanier, writing from his own website.
