Goodbye, Harvey Pekar

The ground-breaking indie comic book writer Harvey Pekar -- much loved for his award-winning autobiographical comic American Splendor -- passed away on Monday at the age of 70.

Pekar helped steer the comic book genre away from super-hero fistfights, delivering his take on life with an unflinching honesty that earned him legions of fans, a Harvey Award, and what must be unique among comic book professionals -- a ban from David Letterman's talk show.

Visit the Comics Reporter for a comprehensive look at Pekar's life, his work, and the impact this unique creator had on the industry he loved.
